The piezoelectric Knock Sensor used in Cadillac Catera converts the vibrations into electrical signal to make continuous measurement of the engine conditions. Besides the advantage of increasing the efficiency of the car, this feature is useful in reducing the detonation of the engine to optimal limits to ensure that the car is safe to use on the roads. Cadillac Catera is a luxurious car with rear-wheel drive and the application of the Knock Sensor brings great advantages since the engine can work close to the knock limit, which provides more power and durability, thus the Cadillac Catera can compete any other car in the market. Cadillac Catera Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on Cadillac Catera?
    A:
Start the replacement process with the Knock Sensor connector removal before you remove the power steering pump pulley. Secure a 36-inch length of scrap wire to the pigtail after removing it from retaining clips. This wire will become the pull wire needed for the replacement process. Disassemble the left-hand Engine Mount and carefully uninstall the Engine Mount bracket bolts before extracting the bracket from engine block positioning. Unfasten the center bolt of the Knock Sensor while carefully noting the pigtail routing for future installation. The Knock Sensor pigtail requires gentle pulling through the wiring conduit until both ends of the pull wire detach from it before separating the Knock Sensor from the pull wire which stays in position. Clean the mating areas of the Knock Sensor along with the engine block before placement to guarantee complete sensor surface contact with the block. You must not place washers between the Knock Sensor and install this component tightly to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Use the pull wire to transport the Knock Sensor pigtail safely back to the power steering pump retaining clip after firmly connecting it to the wire. Remove the pull wire once the pigtail reaches the clip. Route the pigtail away from the Exhaust Manifold and all engine components while moving into position. Insert the wiring harness into the Knock Sensor before finally securing the pigtail to its retaining clips. Next install the Engine Mount bracket onto the engine block with 60 n.m (44 lb ft) torque then complete with left hand Engine Mount installation and power steering pump pulley.
