2001 Cadillac Catera Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 1 on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: Start the Knock Sensor (KS) 1 replacement by disconnecting it from the wiring harness then removing the generator and drive belt fastener. Carefully keep track of the positioning of retaining clips around the Knock Sensor pigtail because it needs to pass through the back timing belt cover. The Knock Sensor replacement process starts by removing the retaining clips on the rear timing belt cover which allows the Knock Sensor pigtail to come loose. After that detach the bolt in the center of the Knock Sensor, extract the Knock Sensor from its position in the engine block. The installation of the Knock Sensor requires engine block surface cleaning until the sensor makes full contact with the block at its proper placement. Polishing all fasteners to their proper torque levels is essential, but avoid using washers including spring washers or toothed washers since installation. Place the Knock Sensor on its designated position on the engine block before securing it with 20 n.m (15 lb ft) torque. Reinstall the Knock Sensor pigtail according to previous removal instructions while maintaining its separation from all engine movement and secure it back into the holding clips. After reinstalling the generator with the drive belt tensioner put in place you can connect the Knock Sensor connector.
