2000 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear Parking Assist Distance Sensor on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The first step to replace a rear object sensor includes removing the rear bumper fascia and disconnecting its electrical connector to the sensor. Gentle pressure on the housing locking tabs will bring the rear object sensor loose for removal. Press the spring while removing it from the housing before releasing the housing tabs and finally removing it. The bezel can be pushed through the fascia to remove it. During assembly work on the new rear object sensor requires paint application but the technician must verify the paint layer stays under 6 mils with help from a non-ferrous metal suitable paint thickness gauge. Secure the rear object sensor bezel onto the fascia by pressing the ring down until it touches the surface before positioning the keyhole correctly and pushing the sensor bezel compactly. Secure the housing on the bezel by inserting it through the fascia cutouts so that spring keys seat into bottom and top positions respectively. Place the spring inside the housing before positioning the decoupling ring onto the sensor part. The sensor must be inserted into the housing so the connector faces the passenger side of the fascia while the sensor tabs should align with the cutouts of the housing. The installation process ends with connecting the electrical connector followed by reattaching the rear bumper fascia.
