• Q: How to Remove and Install the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?

  A: To disassemble the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable first disable the sir system. Then, take off the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module and the Steering Wheel. Pry off the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column harness, then pull off the retaining ring and the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil from the Steering Shaft. In installation, ensure the sir coil assembly is centered, if necessary, and then pass the sir coil assembly connectors through the steering column. Mount the current sir coil assembly onto the Steering Shaft assembly by properly orienting it to align with the opening on the horn tower and between the "locating bump" at the 2 tabs on the lock housing cover & sleeve assembly, and mate it onto the Steering Shaft assembly. If you need a new sir coil assembly then assemble the pre-centered sir coil assembly to the Steering Shaft, position it, align the opening and remove the centering tab and dispose of it. Mount the retaining ring to the steering shafts assembly and pull on all wires to ensure you do not have any kinks which could harm the wire harness. Finally, install a wiring protector and the wire harness straps into the steering column, installing the Steering Wheel and the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module opening the sir system.
