Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Start by draining out the engine coolant and detach the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector to replace the upper Intake Manifold. Take off the air intake duct and the drive belt tensioner. Remove the Fuel Injector electrical connectors from the fuel injectors, the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector, and the engine harness vacuum tube from the vacuum port. Loosen the fuel pressure regulator tube from the manifold vacuum source and fuel pressure regulator valve; then manifold vacuum source screws and the manifold vacuum source itself. Remove the evap-canister purge valve switch electrical connector and bleeding the fuel pressure. Disconnect the fuel lines from the Fuel Rail, using the fuel line quick connect separator (J 37088-A), and disconnect the fuel vapor line from the evap canister purge valve and remove the bolts and valve from the upper Intake Manifold. Unfasten the Ignition Control Module, move the brake booster hose clamp, and then unplug the brake booster hose from the upper Intake Manifold fitting. Remove the electronic throttle control (ETC) electrical connector, the mass airflow (MAF) sensor electrical connector, and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connectors. Pull out the engine harness rosebud clip from the Throttle Body, the engine harness clamp bolt and harness , and move the engine wiring harness. Remove the Thermostat Housing, disconnect the wiring harness rosebud clips from the Fuel Rail, and unscrew the Fuel Rail nuts before blowing compressed air into the injector bores to make sure any dirt is out. Detach the Fuel Rail from the Intake Manifold upper, the Throttle Body bolt, nuts, and Throttle Body, as well as the gasket. Disconnect the bolts (1,3,4) for the upper Intake Manifold and the upper Intake Manifold itself, including the upper Intake Manifold gasket . Clean the sealing surfaces of the upper and lower intake manifolds and remove lower Intake Manifold o-ring seals (3, 4) if necessary. For installation, begin with the installation of new lower Intake Manifold o-ring seals (3, 4) if removed while at the same time you install the upper Intake Manifold gasket and the upper Intake Manifold onto the lower Intake Manifold. Install the upper Intake Manifold bolts (1, 3, 4) to the specified torque values. Next, install the Throttle Body and gasket, followed by the Throttle Body bolt and nuts, making sure they are torqued to the correct, and then perform Throttle Body synchronization . Attach the fuel rail to the upper intake manifold and tighten the fuel rail nuts. Position the wiring harness and attach the wiring harness rosebud clips to the fuel rail. Then install the thermostat housing and position the engine wiring harness. Install the check valve on inlet and return unions making sure unions are sealed off and then slow an engine by installing valve covers then securing the same coupling bolts /clamps that are sized to the original and install the bulkhead and burst disc . Check that anti-seize compound is applied on the hose ends and threads. Fully secure the hose clamps according to the specified procedure. After that connect the maf sensor and ect sensor electrical connector along with etc electrical connector. Install the captured secondary lock from the connector, the brake booster hose to the upper Intake Manifold fitting, and fit the brake booster hose clamp in place. Install Ignition Control Module, the evap canister purge valve to upper Intake Manifold tightened the evap canister purge valve bolts. Join the fuel vapor line to the evap canister purge valve , fuel lines to the Fuel Rail, and the evap canister purge valve switch electrical connector. Re-attach the Fuel Injector electrical connectors to the fuel injectors, attach the manifold vacuum source to the upper Intake Manifold, and screw in the manifold vacuum source screws . Reattach the fuel pressure regulator tube to manifold vacuum source and fuel pressure regulator valve and reconnect the engine harness vacuum tube to the vacuum port as well as MAP Sensor electrical connector to the Fuel Injector electrical connectors. Lastly, align the drive belt, tensioner, the air intake duct, and reconnecting the iat sensor's electrical connector before filling the engine with its coolant.
