How to replace the negative battery cable on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?

First disconnect the negative battery cable when installing a replacement. The tape between the two cables needs to be cut where it attaches to the battery tray retainer and near the transmission electrical plug. Begin by removing the front engine wire harness retainer nut that's positioned at the engine's rear section before placing the wire retainer to the side. Start by removing the negative battery cable ground stud from the engine block followed by removal of the negative battery cable itself. After positioning the new cable into its place add the ground stud through the negative cable into the engine block and tighten it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Secure the engine wire harness retainer around the ground stud before fixing the retainer onto the stud and tighten the retainer nut to 18 N.m (13 lb ft). The completion requires taping cables together where they meet at both the battery tray and the transmission electrical plug before connecting the negative battery cable.
