2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Start Crankshaft main bearing seal repair by removing the Flywheel component first. Inspect the rear oil seal while checking for leaks but be sure not to damage the Crankshaft seal surface with your pry tool. Use a screwdriver to peel away the dust lip from the seal while gently moving the tool across it until full removal. Bore nicks and burrs should be inspected and fixed immediately before inspecting the Crankshaft for nicks or burrs on the seal contact surface. If necessary, replace or repair these surfaces before proceeding. To install the rear main bearing oil seal use the tool j 34686 to apply engine oil across the seal's contact surface and bore. Slide the new oil seal over the mandrel until its dust lip rests evenly against the tool collar surface. Positions the tool's dowel pin against the dowel pin hole in the Crankshaft then fastens the tool. Tightening the t-handle will press the seal into the bore until the tool collar reaches block level but full t-handle loosening must follow to enable screw and tool removal. Set the seal perfectly into position in the bore area before you put back the Flywheel and transmission. You should operate the engine while inspecting for any signs of oil dripping from the cracked area.
