2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: To start replacing the Wheel Cylinder properly raise and support the vehicle under it. Keep away from brake lining grinding and stay away from cleaning wheel brake parts with a dry brush or compressed air to prevent asbestos release into the air. A damp cleaning cloth takes away dust during the process. Remove the brake pipe from the Wheel Cylinder followed by sealing its opening to prevent fluid leaks. Clean the inlet and pilot area around the Wheel Cylinder assembly. You need to take away the Brake Drum along with brake shoes numbers 17 and 29 and the hub and bearing assembly. Take the backing plate off the axle flange without allowing damage through parking brake cable suspension. Unbolt the Wheel Cylinder and take it away from its position. First install the Wheel Cylinder then bolt it in place with 20 nm torque setting (15 ft. Lbs.). Secure thebacking plate first to axle flange. Position hub and bearing assembly on top. Put the brake shoes (17, 29) inside the Brake Drum and fix them in place. Finish the job by joining the brake pipe to Wheel Cylinder and tightening the brake nut to 23 nm force then conduct Wheel Cylinder and entire brake system bleeding.
