2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Before starting the Wheel Cylinder replacement work raise and stabilize the automobile then take off the tire and wheel unit. Before removing the brake line from the Wheel Cylinder you need to clean all foreign substances from around its inlet and pilot assembly. You should cap or plug the open brake pipe end to stop fluid loss or contamination. First your task is to plug brake pipe end before removing Brake Drum shoes hub and bearing as well as Wheel Cylinder bolts and Wheel Cylinder itself. Install the Wheel Cylinder per the fastener notice and then thread and tighten the Wheel Cylinder bolts to 20 nm while following the service precautions. Position the hub and bearing assembly then connect the brake pipe hardware into the Wheel Cylinder space before torquing the brake pipe nut to 23 nm (17 ft.lbs). Put in the brake shoes and adjust the rear drum brakes before placing in the Brake Drum. Continue with Wheel Cylinder bleeding along with the entire brake system. Also prepare and test the parking brake system while installing the tire and wheel unit before lowering the car back into place.
