2000 Chevrolet Express 3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on 2000 Chevrolet Express 3500?
A: Repairing the brake caliper requires three types of boot seal installers and one Piston ring compressor tool: j 24548, j 36474, j 36475, j 38453. After removing brake fluid from both parts take clean shop towels to clean the interior space. Always protect your fingers from the Piston before using compressed air due to the risk of severe injuries. Apply minor air pressure to let the Piston exit the bore gently before extracting both parts without scratching the inner surface. A nonmetal tool and bleeder valve must be removed from the Piston. Use denatured alcohol to clean all parts of the bleeder valve including the caliper bore and passages. Then dry them using filtered compressed air. When any of these conditions reveals itself in the Piston's surface or caliper bore seal groove replace both components along with all parts showing similar impairment. Use soft crocus fabric to treat mild corrosion before replacing items. After applying brake fluid to the new components put the Piston seal gently into position without turning it. Place the boot onto the Piston before inserting the Piston and boot unit into the caliper bore. Use the Piston to push into the full bottom position. The boot housing needs to be installed using any of the boot seal tools j 36474, j 36475, or j 38453. Fit the front brake caliper bleeder valve and fasten it with 13 nm (115 inch lbs. Torque).
