    Q:
What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on Chevrolet Express 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
A brake caliper repair or service requires these essential tools: the tool set required for service includes piston ring compressor j 24548 along with 75 mm boot seal installer j 36474 and both 80 mm boot seal installer j 36475 and 86 mm boot seal installer j 38453. Piston ring compressor (J 24548), 75 mm boot seal installer (J 36474), 80 mm boot seal installer (J 36475), and 86 mm boot seal installer (J 38453). Begin the brake caliper service by removing the front caliper and using low-pressure compressed air to push the piston through the caliper bore at the fluid inlet opening. Use a ring compressor to pull out the caliper piston seal from its counter bore before discarding its boot and following it up with the caliper bore piston seal removal. Extract the caliper's bleeder valve together with its cap. Brake Caliper Piston bore and seal counterbore and piston must be cleaned with denatured alcohol or equivalent solutions before drying them with filtered non-lubricated air. The caliper bore inspection should disclose any damage while light rust and corrosion require removal using fine emery paper. Severe caliper assembly replacement should be performed if substantial damage exists. Test the caliper piston for damage through examination for cracks and scoring followed by a replacement if failures are detected. Start by applying delco supreme 11(R) (GM P/N 12377967) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid to the new piston seal before installing it inside the caliper bore. The piston ring compressor (J 24548) helps you properly place the piston and its boot into the caliper bore by guiding the piston to the bore's bottom. To mount the new piston dust boot seal install one of three specified boot housing tools: 75 mm boot seal installer (J 36474), 80 mm boot seal installer (J 36475), or 86 mm boot seal installer (J 38453). After tightening the front brake caliper bleeder valve to 13 nm torque (115 inch lbs.), reinstall the front brake caliper back into the vehicle.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on Front on GMC C3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for servicing or repairing the brake caliper of the c3500hd front consists of engaging the parking brake along with wheel blocking. Disassemble the brake caliper before you uninstall the hub along with its brake rotor assembly. The next step is to conduct Wheel Hub, bearing, and seal replacement (RWD-C3500HD). Unbolt the brake caliper mounting plate after removing its washers and bolts. Support rails must be checked for rust and corrosion then cleaned through wire brushing. The mounting plate should be inspected for cracks and bolt holes should be inspected for elongation and any problematic parts need replacement. Install the brake caliper mounting plate to the Steering Knuckle maintaining thread cleanliness before applying 272 threadlocker to all brake caliper mounting plate bolts. Tighten the brake shield bolts to 26 nm while using 19 ft. Lbs torque setting. Attach all bolts together with washers. Tighten the brake caliper mounting plate bolts to 105 nm (78 ft. Lbs.). After installation of the hub and brake rotor unit proceed with brake caliper installation. Finally, remove the blocks.
