2000 Chevrolet K3500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2000 Chevrolet K3500?
A: Tilt the vehicle to the rear, remove two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder and lift it with suitable stands before you begin. Note the connection between the wheel and the hub and come apart the wheel and the tire together. Set a C-clamp on the piston, tighten it so that the piston touches the bottom of the bore and then take the C-clamp off. Now, you should remove the brake hose and then the support key (3), the bolt (2) and the spring (4). Press out the support key with a brass punch and a hammer and after that, remove the caliper assembly (1). Inside of the caliper assembly, see if any fluid is leaking; if you notice any leakage, follow the instructions in Brake Caliper Overhaul. A wire brush should be used to get rid of corrosion on the machined surfaces of both the anchor plate and caliper. While putting on the caliper, apply a layer of Shell Aeroshell Grade 5 lubricant or its equal to the moving surfaces and NOT NEVER SEIZE products. Following that, install the caliper assembly (1), the spring (4) and finish by driving the support key (3) in place using a brass punch and hammer. Set the bolt (2) into the key, make sure it fits into the immediate boss in the key and tighten it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Place the brake hose neatly and tighten it with 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) of torque, being sure it isn't twisted. Drain your tires, gap the rims and then fit the assembly into place. Make sure the brake pedal is firm before moving the car and after pumping the brakes, check if the brake fluid level is adequate in the master cylinder. You should lower the vehicle at the end of the process.
