    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Rear Brake Calipers on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service or repair of the c3500hd rear brake caliper requires wheel blockers and a parking brake application followed by vehicle lifting and support. Take all brake components including the caliper and rotor with its hub off the vehicle. Start by removing the caliper bolts along with washers before you can take the brake caliper mounting plate off the rear axle. Check the support rails for signs of rust and corrosion and remove surface debris with a wire brush when cleaning them. Inspect the brake caliper mounting plate for any presence of cracks and bolt hole elongation. Replace it if needed. Secure the brake caliper mounting plate to the rear axle before you apply 272 threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 to the mounting plate bolts but make sure the threads stay clean and grease-free. Screw in the bolts with washers as you tighten the brake shield bolts to 32 nm (24 ft.lbs) while the brake caliper mounting plate bolts require a torque of 220 nm (162 ft. Lbs.). Place the brake rotor with the hub back on the vehicle together with the brake caliper before lowering the vehicle and removing the supporting blocks.
