2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: First use is setting the ignition switch to off before starting the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) replacement. You should remove the bolts that fasten the Cruise Control Module then move it to the side. The ebcm harness connector needs a user to push down the lock tab followed by moving the sliding connector cover to an open position while releasing the red locking tab from the connector. Record all brake pipe positions before installing the parts. The process begins with disconnecting the brake pipes from the bpmv. Then swing the tubes to the side and use coverings to protect the open pipes to avoid dripping or contamination. Attach protective covering to the open brass pipes managing the connection from the bpmv to the master cylinder before removing the pipes from the master cylinder. Two bpmv mounting bracket nuts along with one bolt near the bottom and one nut at the top of the bpmv mounting bracket need to be removed before releasing the bmpv from the strut tower. You should remove the bpmv mounting bracket and ebcm assembly from the vehicle by disconnecting the ebcm-to-chassis ground strap and protect the exterior from brake fluid spillage. Bolt removal from the bpmv is required when the mounting bracket is engaged through four bolts. The ebcm can be attached to the bpmv for installation when you replace only the bpmv. Screw the four bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) onto the bpmv and ebcm assembly before securing it to the mounting bracket . The bpmv bracket should be installed to the strut tower with one bolt secured to three nuts where the lower two nuts together with bolt need 10 nm (84 inch lbs.) torque while the top nut requires 3 nm (27 inch lbs.) torque. New bpmv setups require removal of shipping plugs from its valve openings. The wheel lockup prevention requires proper connection between brake pipes and bpmv. The master cylinder brake pipes should receive installation into the bmpv before securing all fittings at 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The bpmv brake pipes must be installed and all four fittings should be tightened to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install the ebcm harness connector while the ground strap leads between the ebcm assembly and chassis. Pull down the lock tab while moving the sliding connector cover into locked position and then put the red locking tab in place. Install the Cruise Control Module. Perform the automated abs bleed procedure as the last step.
