2000 GMC C2500 Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install and adjust the Parking Brake Cable on 2000 GMC C2500?
A: Make sure to release the parking brake and raise and support the vehicle at the beginning of the repair. Take the tension off the cable by rotating the nut at the equalizer and finally, pull the cable out of the equalizer. Take off the bolt that holds the rear axle and then remove the cable from the clip on the differential. To remove the cable from a standard cab, push down on the tabs to unlatch the mounting bracket and to remove it from an extended cab, push down on the tabs where it is attached to the vehicle's body. After that, take out the cable from the lever, then push the locking tabs to remove the backing plate and lastly, remove the retaining bracket and the cable as a whole. For set-up, use the guides and body mounts to carry the cable to the needed spot and then fit the cable onto the backing plate by pressing firmly until the locking tabs are fastened. Latch the cable onto the lever, snap it over the mounting bracket and position the body mount up onto the port. Use a bolt to attach the cable to the differential clips and make sure to tighten it to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Attach the cable to the rear axle holding clip and secure it by hand using your fingers, if it does not remain beneath the clip snugly. Fasten the cable to the differential clip, link it to the equalizer and tighten the nut at the equalizer to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Lastly, take off the safety struts, decrease the height of the vehicle and tighten the park brake cable.
