  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Rack and Pinion Assembly on 2000 GMC C2500?
    A: Lift the car up on a hoist and place it on safety stands and proceed to take out both the front tire and the wheel. If there is an engine shield, remove it and after that, remove the stabilizer shaft. Put a drain pan below where the power steering fluid will come out and disconnect the power steering high pressure line (2) and the power steering low pressure line (1) from the Rack And Pinion assembly (3). After that, take out the coupler clamp bolt on the intermediate shaft and unhook the shaft from the Rack And Pinion group. Unscrew and remove the nuts (1), washers (2) and bolts (4) holding the Rack And Pinion assembly and then get rid of the Rack And Pinion assembly (3). As a part of installation, place the Rack And Pinion assembly (3) inside the vehicle, attach the mounting bolts (4) along with the washers (2) and nuts (1) and tighten the nuts to 185 nm (136 ft. Lbs.). Place the intermediate shaft on the Rack And Pinion assembly and fasten the coupler clamp bolt until it reaches 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.) join the power steering low pressure hose to the Rack And Pinion assembly and then connect the power steering high pressure hose in the same way, securing them at 27 nm (28 ft. Lbs.). Once you have the tools, place the engine protection shield and the stabilizer shaft again. After that, install the front tire and wheel assembly. Take the safety stands off, lower the car and drain the power steering fluid.
