2000 GMC Jimmy Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: To change the Timing Chain and sprockets, first you will need to remove the engine front cover as well as the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Cover the end of the Crankshaft with a 7/16-20 l-inch bolt for rotation of your machine engine except do not use the Crankshaft balancer bolt or over 1 inch bolt as it may damage the bolt threads and the Crankshaft threaded hole. Rotate the engine until the timing marks are fully aligned on both camshaft sprockets, then ensure that the roller set is in the Top Dead Center (TDC) position for the squeeze play. Next, take off the Timing Chain and sprockets, clean, and check them. Install the Timing Chain and sprockets back; remove the bolt used to rotate the engine; the final operation is to install the front cover of the engine.
