How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace Timing Chain and sprockets, you should remove the engine front cover and the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring first. To rotate the engine, put a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt on the end of the Crankshaft without using the Crankshaft balancer bolt or larger than 1 inch bolt to prevent damaging bolt threads and the Crankshaft threaded hole. Before you take off the Timing Chain, you should align timing marks, and if it's necessary to turn the camshaft or Crankshaft with the Timing Chain taken off, loosen or remove valve rocker arms to avoid Piston to valve contact. Rotate the Crankshaft to make sure both sprockets timing markds coincide, and the number four cylinder is at top dead center ( TDC ) of compression stroke. Then, take out the Timing Chain and sprockets and clean and check them. For installation, install the Timing Chain and sprockets, do not reuse the bolt of the Crankshaft to avoid leakages of oil for the final installation of the engine front cover.

    Q:
How to replace the timing chain, sprockets, or tensioner on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace a Timing Chain, sprockets, or tensioner, collect proper tools: rear pinion bearing race installer (J 5590) and Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A). Start off by taking off the Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor reluctor ring and then screw a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt into the end of the Crankshaft. Line up the timing marks prior to loosening the Timing Chain make sure that the number 4 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. Leave the camshaft Timing Chain tensioner shoe; unsnap it from the pin; take the bolts holding the camshaft sprocket, and extract the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft Timing Chain. Remove the Crankshaft sprocket using Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A), open end wrench and Crankshaft balancer key. If necessary, remove the Timing Chain tensioner bracket bolt and bracket, clean and inspect the Timing Chain and sprockets. For installation, in case of the necessity of installation, install the Timing Chain tensioner bracket and bolt, tighten it to the 12 nm (106 inch lbs). Insert the key into the Crankshaft keyway in parallel or slightly inclined manner and align the Crankshaft count keyway with balancer key. Install the Crankshaft sprocket using the rear pinion bearing race installer (J 5590). When you install the camshaft sprocket, you should do so with the alignment mark facing the 6 o'clock location, while winding the Timing Chain around the Crankshaft sprocket and ensuring that it is in front of the engine and on the driver's side of said engine. Push the Timing Chain tensioner shoe underneath the tab of the bracket at the top and insert the camshaft Timing Chain sprocket to the Timing Chain such that the timing marks will be in line when you have it installed on the camshaft. Do not fix the camshaft sprocket with a hammer so that the expansion cup plug will not come off. Apply the camshaft sprocket bolts, tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), while making sure that the Crankshaft sprocket sits at the 12 o'clock position and the camshaft sprocket sits at the 6 o'clock position. Finally, remove the bolt off the Crankshaft and reattach the ckp sensor reluctor ring.

    Q:
How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on Chevrolet Express 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the Timing Chain and the sprockets, first take off the Oil Pump and then rotate the Crankshaft until there is a proper response between the marks on the Crankshaft and the camshaft, make sure not to turn the unit on Crankshaft once the Timing Chain will have come out so as not to damage the piston assemblies or valves. Next, remove the bolts of camshaft sprockets and then the camshaft sprockets as well as the Timing Chain. When removing Crankshaft sprocket, use a j8433 pulley puller (J8433), j41816-2 Crankshaft end protector (J41816-2), and j41558 Crankshaft sprocket remover (J41558). Remove Crankshaft sprocket then get the Crankshaft sprocket thoroughly removed. In case of necessity remove the Crankshaft sprocket key and clean check and sprockets. Treat it just like when installing a pinion bearing, put the key in the crank keyway and tap it into place up to where both ends are seated. Mount the Crankshaft sprocket on the front of the Crankshaft, putting it in alignment with the keyway in the Crankshaft key using the j41665 Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer (J41665). Installs the sprocklet completely into the position against the Crankshaft flange. Turn the Crankshaft sprocket so the alignment is placed at the 12 o'clock, making sure that the locating pin on the camshaft sprocket aligns correctly with a hole created in the sprocket, the teeth of the sprocket are in mesh with Timing Chain, and aligning marks placed on the camshaft and Crankshaft sprockets align, and camshaft sprocket alignment mark is at the 6 o'clock. Put on the camshaft sprocket and the Timing Chain, tweak the camshaft or Crankshaft sprockets to have the appropriate timing marks align on them. Finally, install the camshaft sprocket bolts and screw them to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) and then reinstall the Oil Pump.

How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Timing Chain and sprockets, one has to remove the engine front cover and the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. Install a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt into the end of the Crankshaft to rotate the engine. Make sure it is not the Crankshaft balancer bolt or more than 1 inch long as to not damage it. Turn the Crankshaft until there is a timing mark on both sprockets that match up and the number 4 cylinder is at the top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. Second, remove the camshaft sprocket bolts and then the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft Timing Chain, respectively. It is necessary to remove the Crankshaft sprocket using the Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A), and after that you should also remove the Crankshaft balancer key. After cleaning all components in cleaning solvent wiping with compressed air inspect cam shaft Timing Chain and sprockets for wear or damage. For installation, the Crankshaft balancer key should be inserted in the Crankshaft key way but should be parallel or minor inclined. Mount the keyway of Crankshaft sprocket aligned to balancer key and use the Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590) to install the Crankshaft sprocket. Mount the camshaft sprocket with its marking at the 6 o'clock position and the Crankshaft sprocket on the 12 o'clock position. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Q:
How to service and repair the timing chain on GMC Savana 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To service and repair the Timing Chain, one should start with the removal of the engine front cover and Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. To rotate the engine, it is necessary to put a 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt on the end of the Crankshaft that its tip is pointing up by not using the crank shaft balancer bolt (CRANK SHAFT BALANCE) nor a bolt longer than 1 inch to avoid stripping of the bolt head. Turn the Crankshaft so that the marking on the rear sprocket align with the marking on the front sprocket and cylinder number four is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. Next, you should undo the camshaft sprocket bolts, then camshaft sprocket and camshaft Timing Chain. Remove Crankshaft sprocket and Crankshaft balancer key with the help of the Crankshaft gear remover (J 5825-A). Clean and inspect the Timing Chain and sprocket before installation. Place the Crankshaft balancer key into the keyway of the Crankshaft, ensuring the latter is almost parallel or slightly inclined. Key the keyway of the Crankshaft sprocket with the balancer key on the Crankshaft and then use the pinion bearing race installer - rear (J 5590) to install the Crankshaft sprocket. Rotate the Crankshaft so its sprocket alignment mark is placed at the 12 o'clock, and fill in the camshaft sprocket with its alignment mark positioned on the 6 o'clock and ensure the correct alignment on both sprockets. Use the camshaft sprocket bolts, and fix them with 25 nm, (18 ft, lbs). Finally put on Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring and line up key component of the ring with the Crankshaft balancer key, use a hammer to fit it onto the Crankshaft until it sits against the Crankshaft sprocket, remove bolt from the end of the Crankshaft, and replace the engine front cover.

    Q:
How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
A Timing Chain replacement starts by removing both the engine front cover and the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. A 7/16-20 x 1 inch bolt needs installation into the Crankshaft's end for rotation purposes but you must avoid using the Crankshaft balancer bolt or any bolt longer than 1 inch since it causes damage to bolt threads as well as Crankshaft threaded holes. Timing Chain replacement should start by positioning the timing marks in proper alignment. Before turning the camshaft or Crankshaft with the Timing Chain off it's necessary to loosen or remove the valve rocker arms to stop piston-valve contact from occurring. Use a 1-inch bolt to rotate the Crankshaft until both sprocket timing marks perfectly align and cylinder number four reaches its compression stroke's top dead center position. Once the Timing Chain and sprockets leave the system you need to clean and inspect them. Follow these steps for installation: start with the Timing Chain and sprockets installation but don't reuse the engine front cover due to potential oil leakage concerns. The Crankshaft bolt removal procedure closes the installation process.

How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on GMC Savana 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Step first, remove the engine front cover and the Crankshaft position reluctor ring; it is recommended to install a new engine front cover afterwards. Turn the Crankshaft around until the number one cylinder is at the top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke and the marks for the timing are perfectly synced for both sprockets. Then, you will need to eliminate the camshaft sprocket bolts, then camshaft sprocket, then camshaft Timing Chain. The Crankshaft gear installer (J 5825-A) can be used to remove the Crankshaft sprocket and, if needed, woodruff key (crankshaft balancer) as well. For the installation, put the woodruff key (crankshaft balancer) into the Crankshaft, if it was taken off, align the keyway of Crankshaft sprocket with the woodruff key, and use the Crankshaft gear installer (J 5590) and the hammer to fixing the Crankshaft sprocket. Make sure that the no 1 Piston is at tdc, while compressing, and align the timing marks to the sprocket on both, so that the Crankshaft sprocket will have marking at the 12 position. Mount the camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain such that the camshaft sprocket aligns in the 6 o-clock position. Close to the camshaft sprocket bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), align camshaft and Crankshaft sprocket alignment marks, and finally, install the Crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring and the engine front cover.
