    Q:
How to service and repair the timing cover on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the Timing Cover requires sequential removal of the engine Oil Pan followed by the crankshaft balancer and the Water Pump components. Before reinstalling the engine front cover remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor while ensuring that the new cover prevents oil leakage. Toss out the discarded engine front cover while cleansing every sealing surface. The new engine front cover requires installation before placing the engine Oil Pan. Experts advise against using the old original gas-air seal during the installation of the CKP sensor as it may cause issues with unpredictable engine movement. Complete the installation with the CKP sensor together with the Water Pump and crankshaft balancer.

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine front cover replacement requires removal of these components: engine Oil Pan, crankshaft balancer, water pump, ckp sensor, followed by disposal of the Crankshaft Position Sensor seal (O-ring). After removing all engine front cover bolts the composite engine front cover can be removed. Install a new engine front cover instead of using the original one. The replacement process mandates the elimination of old engine front cover followed by cleaning of all sealing surfaces before using a new engine front cover. The installation process requires engine front cover bolts to reach 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) torque while replacing the original Crankshaft Position Sensor seal (O-ring) with a new one. The Crankshaft Position Sensor must be positioned completely inside the engine front cover Crankshaft Position Sensor bore to stop wild engine operational behavior. Add new engine oil to the Crankshaft Position Sensor seal (O-ring) before installing this element onto the sensor. Reinstall the Water Pump along with the crankshaft balancer and ckp sensor as well as the engine Oil Pan.

To replace engine front cover, first be armed with needs tools that includes front and rear cover alignment tool(J41476). You would first remove the Water Pump, followed by the crankshaft balancer, then the bolts for the Oil Pan-to-front cover. Next, remove the bolts holding the front cover and take off the front cover and gasket and dispose of the old gasket. Clean and inspect/engine front cover ensure all gasket material surfaces free of oil or foreign 1. It is very important not to reuse the crankshaft oil seal as well as the front cover gasket, and not to use any sealant on the front cover gasket unless indicated. Seal gm U.S. P/N 12378190, or equivalent, 20 mm (0.80 inch) long sealant bead - 5 mm (0.20 inch) wide, 20 mm (0.80 inch) long - to the Oil Pan to engine block junction. Install the new front cover gasket and cover and tighten the front cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts until they are just snug, without overtightening. Properly center the crankshaft front oil seal, aligning taper legs with the machined alignment surfaces on the front cover using the j41476. Tighten the Oil Pan to front cover bolts and engine front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs). Once you replace the j41476, you should replace the crankshaft front oil seal, and the last step will be to reinstall the Water Pump.

How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the previous engine front, first you remove the Water Pump, crank shaft, balancer, oil pan and then take the engine shield bolts and shield out. Unplug the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector, remove the ckp sensor bolt and sensor, and pass the ckp sensor o-ring seal. Next, unbolt and discard the front cover bolts and do not reinstall old composite front cover but install a new front cover instead. Polish all sealing surfaces before installing the new front cover and tighten front cover bolts at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Lubricate a new ckp sensor o-ring seal with clean engine oil and install it to the ckp sensor followed by installing the ckp sensor and bolt in such a way that the bolt is tightened to 8 nm (71 inch lbs) while ensuring that the sensor is fully seated in order to reduce erratic performance and false dtcs. Disconnect the ckp sensor electrical connector , then mount the engine shield and bolts, temporarily tighten--20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Finally, replace the Oil Pan, crankshaft balancer, and Water Pump.

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on GMC Savana 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
A replacement of the engine front cover requires workers to begin by taking away the crankshaft balancer followed by the Water Pump then emptying out engine oil. Apart from the two backside fasteners you will remove every other fastener on the engine Oil Pan. Then you can carefully remove the pan from the engine front cover. Start by disconnecting the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor wire before you take off the engine front cover. Before installation apply the new engine front cover while thoroughly cleaning the adhesive material from the corners where the Oil Pan gasket connects to the engine front cover. Correct installation of the oil gasket and Oil Pan requires immediate fastener tightening when the adhesive maintains its wet consistency. Apply a bead of adhesive gm p/n 12346141 or equivalent that measures 5 mm (0.197 inch) and extends to 25 mm (1.0 inch) along the engine front cover's junction with the engine block at the Oil Pan. After applying a clean engine Oil Pan you must reconnect the ckp sensor wire and install the Water Pump before reinstalling the crankshaft balancer.

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on GMC Savana 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting the Timing Cover replacement requires a sequence of removing the Water Pump and crankshaft balancer followed by Oil Pan-to-Timing Cover bolts and Timing Cover bolts to finally extract the Timing Cover with its gasket. Discard the old gasket when you finish. Before installation of the Timing Cover maintain safety protocols during inspection while refraining from reusing the crankshaft front oil seal or Timing Cover gasket and abstain from using any sealant on the Timing Cover gasket unless instructed. Place a 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of gm U.S. P/N 12378190 (or equivalent) sealant that is 20 mm (0.80 inch) long at the Oil Pan to engine block junction before installing the new Timing Cover gasket and cover. Tighten the Timing Cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-Timing Cover bolts until just firm but do not increase the torque beyond recommended specifications. The j 41476 front and rear cover alignment (J 41476) tool serves to zero in on the crankshaft front oil seal placement by using its tapered legs which reach both machined alignment surfaces on the Timing Cover. Tighten the Oil Pan to Timing Cover bolts and engine Timing Cover bolts to a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) after securing the crankshaft balancer bolt. First remove j 41476 tool before installing a new crankshaft front oil seal that leads to the Water Pump reinstallation.
