- Q: How to replace the engine mount on 2000 GMC Safari?A: The first step to replace the Engine Mount begins with disconnecting the negaive Battery Cable then raising the vehicle. The right front tire together with the right fender wheelhouse extension and Starter must be removed before accessing the right side Engine Mount. The process of Engine Mount replacement begins by taking out the oil filter adapter from the left side. Begin by removing the through-bolt along with the nut which secures the Engine Mount on the selected side of replacement but avoid placing a jack either under the oil pan or any sheet metal or the crankshaft pulley because these could cause component damage. A jack positioned on the engine block square tab enables the engine to gain sufficient clearance for Engine Mount removal. Start by removing bolts from the Engine Mount bracket to engine before reaching through the fender wheelhouse to access the upper bolts securing the right Engine Mount bracket and ultimately removing the bracket. A 4wd vehicle requires Engine Mount frame bracket removal by bolting out the mounts before separating the mount from the frame. The left side rwd Engine Mount requires removal of both bracket bolts to the frame piece along with its right side frame bracket bolts for uninstallation. The procedure calls for removing the Engine Mount frame bracket from the frame on the left side when needed. Begin the installation process with 4wd vehicles by attaching the Engine Mount to frame components then tighten its bolts to 59 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the left-side frames and nuts on the rwd vehicle by applying torque of 47 nm that equals 35 ft. Lbs. And 42 nm torque which equals 31 ft. Lbs. To the frame bracket bolts. Install the right side Engine Mount of an rwd vehicle first then proceed with the left side mount installation followed by tightening the Engine Mount to frame bolts to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) while the nuts need to be fastened to 42 nm (31 ft. Lbs.). Attach the Engine Mount bracket onto the engine before securing its bolts at 64 nm (47 ft. Lbs.). After engine lowering position the Engine Mount through-bolt along with its nut into place while torquing through-bolt nuts to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.). The installation of the oil filter adapter becomes necessary when you replace the left side Engine Mount. The repair procedure for the right side Engine Mount requires installing the Starter followed by the right fender wheelhouse extension and the right front tire. To complete the procedure lower the vehicle and then connect the battery negative cable.
