2000 GMC Safari Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: Start the replacement of the Oil Pan by disconnecting the battery negative cable then taking off the oil level indicator followed by raising the vehicle. Engine oil draining occurs through the removal of the Oil Pan Drain Plug followed by filter removal. Start by removing the bolt that joins the oil cooler pipes bracket to the Oil Pan and then continue with the Oil Filter adapter bolt. Start by removing the bolt securing the bracket that supports Starter wiring harness and transmission cooler pipes and then disconnect the crankcase position sensor wiring harness from its retainer. The process starts with removing the Starter and transmission cover and inner axle shaft housing support bracket to frame nuts and washers. Use a wrench to loosen front differential carrier upper and lower mounting bolts and nuts before lowering the front differential carrier assembly to remove the Oil Pan. Release the rear plugs for the Oil Pan rear nuts and transmission to Oil Pan bolts before extracting the Oil Pan from the engine while cleaning every sealing surface. Install the transmission first during Oil Pan installation to achieve proper alignment which will stop transmission failure. Spacer the Oil Pan to the engine before adding then transmitting bolts and nuts to 47 nm (34 ft. Lbs.) torque. Install the access plugs back into the Oil Pan rear nut holes and place the front differential carrier assembly into position. Then install the mounting bolts and nuts for the carrier assembly. Attach the inner axle shaft housing support bracket to frame washers and nuts before putting on the transmission cover. Tighten the bolts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Fitting the Starter motor requires adjustment of the bolt that connects the Starter wiring harness to transmission cooler pipes and the bolt should be fastened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The technical process starts with reattaching the ckp sensor wiring harness to its retaining position followed by Oil Filter adapter and oil cooler pipes bracket bolt installation using 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) torque. Lock down the Oil Filter and Oil Pan Drain Plug while tightening them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle while filling the crankcase with engine oil and reinstalling the negative Battery Cable.
