2001 Buick LeSabre Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the RH Exhaust Manifold (W/NC8) on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: You should start the replacement of the right-hand side Exhaust Manifold by detaching both the fuel injector sight shield and heated Oxygen Sensor pigtail connection. The next step requires detachment of right side spark plugs along with removal of the secondary air valve connector and hose followed by removal of the two secondary air tube bolts from the Exhaust Manifold. Remove the secondary air tube together with an attached gasket while avoiding gasket reuse. To uninstall the secondary air valve from its position begin by untightening the bolt which fastens the valve to the fuel injector sight shield bracket and remove the valve. First detach the two nuts which secure the power brake booster heat shield to the exhaust crossover then unfasten this heat shield from its position. The exhaust crossover requires removal after detaching its two bolts from the right Exhaust Manifold while removing the transaxle filler tube. Lift the vehicle up and stabilize it while removing both the Exhaust Manifold pipe along with the right Exhaust Manifold studs. First unfasten the heated Oxygen Sensor followed by loosening both fuel injector sight shield bracket retaining nuts then removing the bracket from its position. Disassemble the retaining fasteners of the right engine lift bracket and remove both the bracket and the fasteners. Start by removing the egr inlet pipe bolt that attaches to the right Exhaust Manifold before proceeding with the right Exhaust Manifold retaining fasteners and extracting both the Exhaust Manifold and gasket from the engine while omitting the gasket reuse. Thoroughly clean the right Exhaust Manifold by removing its exhaust crossover seal to conduct an inspection of the part. First apply the new exhaust crossover seal onto the exhaust crossover followed by the new Exhaust Manifold gasket which needs to be placed over the cylinder head studs. Position the right Exhaust Manifold into place around the exhaust crossover and rise to the right cylinder head space then install right Exhaust Manifold fasteners and tighten them to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). After inserting the bolt to secure the egr inlet pipe to the right Exhaust Manifold you should tighten it to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The right engine lift bracket should go onto the engine before securing its fasteners and tightening them to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the fuel injector sight shield bracket to the engine by installing retaining nuts that need to be tightened to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the right Exhaust Manifold studs to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.), then add the heated Oxygen Sensor followed by joining the Exhaust Manifold pipe. Place the filling tube into the transaxle once you lower the vehicle. Install the exhaust crossover onto the right Exhaust Manifold by tightening bolts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). After that, add the power brake booster heat shield while using two nuts that require a torque of 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Install the secondary air valve onto the fuel injector sight shield bracket by attaching a bolt which should be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the new gasket onto the secondary air tube then bolt the two Exhaust Manifold connections while tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The last step involves connecting both hose and connector to the secondary air valve while adding right side spark plugs and installing the heated Oxygen Sensor at its sensor pigtail before reinstalling the fuel injector sight shield.
