You must remove two bolts connecting the exhaust crossover to the left Exhaust Manifold before taking off its retaining fasteners. Disassemble the left Exhaust Manifold while removing its corresponding gasket yet maintain the new gasket usage. A new Exhaust Manifold gasket should be positioned over the cylinder head studs after the left Exhaust Manifold undergoes cleaning and inspection. Start by positioning the left Exhaust Manifold to fit between the exhaust crossover and left cylinder head and fasten its components using a torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the two bolts that join the exhaust crossover to the left Exhaust Manifold until they reach a torque of 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Safely line up the left engine lift bracket onto the engine before fastening its retaining fasteners to 30 nm torque (22 ft. Lbs.). The last step involves putting back the oil level indicator tube and indicator while connecting Spark Plug wires to the spark plugs.

Starting with lh Exhaust Manifold replacement requires wire removal from spark plugs followed by the removal of oil tube and indicator before taking off left engine lift brackets with their fasteners. You must remove two fasteners that secure the exhaust crossover to the left Exhaust Manifold. After that, detach the left Exhaust Manifold fasteners followed by removing the left Exhaust Manifold and gasket. Avoid reusing the gasket during the process. After inspection of the left Exhaust Manifold users should insert a new Exhaust Manifold gasket onto the cylinder head studs. Position the left Exhaust Manifold toward the exhaust crossover while placing it up to the left cylinder head before tightening its fasteners to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The exhaust crossover needs two bolts positioned correctly with torque set to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Install the left engine lift bracket to the engine bays after positioning it correctly then fasten and torque the retaining fasteners to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Approach the final steps by returning the oil level indicator along with its tube back to their original positions and attach the Spark Plug Wires to their respective plugs.

The procedure for left Exhaust Manifold replacement starts with the negative Battery Cable and includes removal of the fuel injector sight shield and engine mount struts together with the lower right engine mount strut bracket. Begin the procedure by removing exhaust crossover pipe bolts from the left Exhaust Manifold then moving on to remove left spark plugs from cylinders 1, 3, and 5. Before finishing remove the oil level indicator tube. Start the procedure by removing the nut and bolt which holds down the engine lift bracket on its left side. Once these components come off the bracket can easily be removed. The Exhaust Manifold process starts with removing heat shield nuts and the heat shield before using Exhaust Manifold bolts and nuts to remove both components and the gasket. The technician should clean and inspect the left Exhaust Manifold before installing both a new gasket and the Exhaust Manifold itself. Tighten up the Exhaust Manifold bolts and nuts to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) before installing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield along with its corresponding nuts that need to be tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). The engine lift bracket installation requires securing the bolt and nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while the oil level indicator tube and left spark plugs in cylinders 1, 3, and 5 receive placement before the exhaust crossover bolts receive 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) tightening to the left Exhaust Manifold. To complete the repair install the lower right engine mount strut bracket as well as engine mount struts and fuel injector sight shield before connecting the negative Battery Cable.

The replacement process for the left Exhaust Manifold begins with disconnecting the negative terminal of the car battery. You must remove three components: fuel injector sight shield, engine mount struts as well as exhaust crossover pipe which connects to the left Exhaust Manifold. In order to begin the replacement process start by detaching left Spark Plug Wires and removing the oil level indicator tube bracket. Start by removing the left engine lift bracket bolt with matching nut and proceed to detach the bracket. The left Exhaust Manifold heat shield requires removal of its retaining nuts before taking out the heat shield followed by extracting all left Exhaust Manifold retaining bolts and nuts to separate the manifold and gasket. To install the left Exhaust Manifold users should use new gaskets before fastening the left Exhaust Manifold into position. The left Exhaust Manifold bolts and nuts should receive a torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) before heat shield installation with its nuts tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Connect both sides of the left engine lift bracket while tightening its bolt and nut combination to reach 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Then proceed with reinstalling the oil level indicator tube bracket followed by left spark plug wire connection and exhaust crossover attachment to the left manifold. To complete the procedure install the engine mount struts with the fuel injector sight shield and battery ground (negative) cable.

Begin by removing the fuel injector sight shield.

Install the heated oxygen sensor, the exhaust manifold pipe, and lower the vehicle.

Position the secondary AIR valve to the fuel injector sight shield bracket, install the bolt, and tighten it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Take off the fuel injector sight shield bracket retaining nuts and the bracket itself, followed by the right engine lift bracket retaining fasteners and the bracket.

Remove the right side spark plugs and the two nuts securing the power brake booster heat shield to the exhaust crossover, followed by the heat shield itself.

Lower the vehicle and remove the engine lift bracket, followed by the exhaust manifold studs and the exhaust manifold itself.

Install the transaxle filler tube and the bolts securing the exhaust crossover to the right exhaust manifold, tightening them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

Install the heated oxygen sensor, followed by the exhaust manifold pipe, and lower the vehicle.

Position the exhaust manifold onto the cylinder head, following the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Place a NEW exhaust manifold gasket over the cylinder head studs.

Lower the vehicle, connect the exhaust crossover pipe, reinstall the fuel injector sight shield, and finally reconnect the negative battery cable.

Install the fuel injector sight shield bracket and tighten the nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

Inspect the EGR pipe outlet for leaks if the EGR pipe was removed.

Remove the right engine lift bracket bolt and nut, then the lift bracket itself, and the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts to take off the bracket.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the air cleaner intake duct.

Reinstall the right engine mount strut bracket.

Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield and its bolts, tightening them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Reinstall the fuel injector sight shield bracket and nuts, tightening them to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), then the right engine lift bracket with its bolt and nut, also to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

Remove the exhaust crossover pipe nuts from the left exhaust manifold.

Install the exhaust crossover pipe nuts to the right exhaust manifold, followed by the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and its bolts, also tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

Install the ignition module and ignition coils with the bracket, the EGR valve to the intake manifold, the MAP sensor, rotate the engine back to its original position, and reinstall the accelerator cable bracket, throttle body air inlet duct, and windshield wiper motor cover.

Connect the catalytic converter pipe to the right exhaust manifold, lower the vehicle, and if equipped, install the AIR pipe. Finally, attach the EGR adapter pipe to the right exhaust manifold, followed by the exhaust crossover pipe, and reinstall the fuel injector sight shield.

Place the exhaust manifold gasket.

Rotate the engine for better access.
