How to service and repair the thermostat on 2001 Buick LeSabre?

The cooling system needs draining before beginning Thermostat repairs or service work. Remove the engine cover first. Shove the spring hose clamp pliers (J 38185) under the inlet Radiator Hose clamp which resides at the Thermostat Housing before removing the hose from its housing. The service starts with unbolting the Thermostat Housing followed by removing both the housing and the Thermostat. Before installing replace with new gasket for the Thermostat the housing and the intake port you must clean all mating surfaces. After tightening the Thermostat Housing bolts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.), install the inlet Radiator Hose and clamp. Reinstall engine cover after filling the cooling system condensate.
