2001 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The first step to replace the generator (L36) includes disconnecting the battery negative cable and removing the Drive Belt. Starting with the fuel injector sight shield removal you must disassemble the generator brace by removing its fasteners. From the generator disconnect the wiring harness connector as you shift the protective boot from the generator output bat terminal towards gain access. First disconnect the battery positive lead from the generator at its output bat terminal and remove the nut which secures this connection. Then remove the generator mounting bolts before taking out the generator from the vehicle. Position the generator on the engine before fastening generator mounting bolts to a torque specification of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install the positive lead to the generator then secure the generator output bat terminal nut with torque set at 12.5 n.m (111 lb in). The generator output bat terminal needs its protective boot installed first before adding the generator brace and fasteners with the brace nut tightened to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) and the brace bolt set to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The last step involves replacing the fuel injector sight shield followed by reinstalling the Drive Belt then reconnecting the battery's negative cable.
