2001 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2001 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Engineers should start engine front cover removal before Timing Chain and sprockets replacement. Start by getting the timing sprocket marks to face each other as tightly as possible before removing the Timing Chain dampener then steadily moving on to the camshaft sprocket bolt followed by the camshaft sprocket. After taking out the Timing Chain you should clean and inspect both the Timing Chain and sprockets. Put the number one Piston at top dead center by turning the Crankshaft and position the camshaft timing mark straight down with the sprocket briefly attached. Position the Timing Chain on the sprockets with close proximity timing marks before installing the Timing Chain followed by the Crankshaft sprocket then the camshaft sprocket. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt at 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) torque setting with the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to achieve 90-degree bolt torque. Place the Timing Chain damper before its bolt and tighten the bolt to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.) while reinstalling the engine front cover.
