2002 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2002 Buick Park Avenue?
A: To first change the Timing Chain and sprockets, remove the engine front cover. Tighten the timing marks closer to each other if possible and then take off the Timing Chain dampener, the bolt for the camshaft sprocket, and the camshaft sprocket. Next, change and clean the Timing Chain and sprockets. Turn the Crankshaft to such an extent that the number one Piston is at top dead center and turn the camshaft so that its timing mark is straight down with the sprocket temporarily assembled. Assemble the Timing Chain on the sprockets with the close ones marks necessary for timing, then on to install the Timing Chain and the Crankshaft sprocket, than camshaft sprocket. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt and tighten the bolt to 100 nm (74 ft.lbs.) using the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to tighten the bolt the additional 90 degrees. Mount the Timing Chain dampener and the Timing Chain dampener bolt, which should be tightened to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.), and subsequently installations of the engine front cover.
