• Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2001 Buick Regal?

  A: You need to turn the engine before working on the cylinder so the Piston reaches top dead center position and protects the valve from falling into the cylinder. Open up the right or left valve rocker cover and then take off both valve Rocker Arm and push rod components. Before continuing, take out the spark plugs from the serviced cylinders. Apply compressed air into the j 23590 adapter that fits the Spark Plug port to keep valves caught in position. Clamp the j 38606 compressor onto the valve spring and reduce its tension. First open valve locks to take out valve spring and cap and lastly extract valve guide seal. Check valve spring condition and replace it with fresh components if it shows signs of wear. Put the new seal onto the valve stem until it sits completely into the valve guide position. Press your fingers over the valve guide seal to put it in place on the valve guide using the j 42863 tool. Use the valve spring compressor j 38606 to once again compress the valve spring. Place the valve spring and cap on their respective positions first before fixing the valve locks securely. Release the valve spring and take off the j 23590 (Spark Plug Port Adapter) while letting the air pressure escape. Replace the Spark Plug into the serviced cylinder(s) then add the push rod and valve Rocker Arm before placing the rock cover on its proper position.
