2001 Cadillac Eldorado Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: The starting point for crankshaft sprocket replacement requires manual removal of the Oil Pump. Use the crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to line up the primary timing marks. Begin your replacement work by taking off the secondary camshaft drive chains then the primary drive chain tensioner. Extract the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt to remove the primary camshaft drive chain together with the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft intermediate sprocket assembly. Installation requires timing alignment of vertical marks located on both the camshaft intermediate and crankshaft sprockets at their installed positions. Synchronize the number 1 piston with top dead center (TDC) while positioning the crankshaft keyway at the 1 o'clock mark before installing the primary camshaft drive chain onto its drive sprockets. Use crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) to ensure the crankshaft key lines up with the drive sprocket before installing primary camshaft drive chain along with crankshaft sprocket and camshaft intermediate sprocket. Screw in the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt to 60 nm torque (44 ft. Lbs.). You must not touch the pin that maintains tensioner until you install the secondary timing chains. After installing the drive chain tensioner begin adding the secondary camshaft drive chains to the assembly. After aligning the primary timing marks vertically remove the pin holding the primary Timing Chain tensioner release lever and install the Oil Pump.
