2001 Cadillac Eldorado Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Start the Crankshaft balancer replacement process by first removing the Drive Belt followed by vehicle elevation. Begin by taking away the right front wheel then remove the front fascia extension through the wheelhouse followed by removal of the engine Oil Pan-brace to the transmission case and the torque converter cover. After placing the flywheel holder (J 44214) install the Crankshaft balancer bolt for removal. Activate a suitable jack to support the engine assembly before removing the right transaxle mount. Lower the engine assembly to access the body rail as space is needed for the Crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816) before inserting the remover pilot into the Crankshaft end for balancer removal. Check the Crankshaft balancer for cleanliness and inspect it before placing it on the Crankshaft nose. Install the Crankshaft balancer using the Crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-A) before cleaning the bolt threads and applying engine oil to them. Install the Crankshaft balancer bolt and apply torque initially to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.), then continue to rotate it 150 degrees more while using torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) for the final tightening cycle. The engine assembly should be raised into position while reinstalling the right transaxle mount and removing the engine support jack with the j 44214. You will then add the torque converter cover followed by your installation of the Oil Pan to transmission brace (tighten its bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. Lbs.)) and the front fascia extension and right front wheel before lowering the vehicle and reinstalling the Drive Belt.
