2001 Chevrolet Astro Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace a thermostat on 2001 Chevrolet Astro?
A: The Thermostat installation requires waiting for engine temperature to drop before proceeding with coolant draining until the Thermostat level is reached. Begin the replacement process by removing the air cleaner assembly and disconnecting the ground lead from the coolant outlet and taking out all bolts including the bolt/stud before you can safely remove the coolant outlet. Clean all sealing surfaces and parts before moving on to the next step. Thermostat installation begins with repositioning the cooling outlet component followed by the Thermostat. Reinstall the bolt alongside the bolt/stud before tightening both pieces to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and reconnected the ground lead to the bolt/stud. You should replace the air cleaner assembly afterwards and add coolant before starting the engine. Monitor for any leakage when the engine reaches its normal operating temperature.
