• Q: How to service and repair the air cleaner fresh air hose on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?

  A: The beginning of air cleaner fresh air duct/hose servicing and repair depends on the removal of three components: the air cleaner outlet splash shield, the lh headlamp assembly retaining screws and the lh headlamp assembly. First disconnect the electrical connectors from the lh headlamp assembly before removing the lf tire and wheel and both the upper and lower front air cleaner intake duct push in retainers. Service of the front air cleaner intake duct requires first removing the lf wheel house panel followed by the front air cleaner intake duct lower push in retainer and the front air cleaner intake duct through the headlamp assembly opening. Screw out the resonator rear push in retainer and upper attaching bolt before removing the resonator assembly through the wheel house opening. Insert the resonator assembly back through the wheel house opening making sure to tighten the resonator rear push in retainer and upper attaching bolt to 7 n.m (61 lb in). First insert the front air cleaner intake duct into the headlamp assembly opening and complete the installation with the front air cleaner intake duct lower push in retainer , lf wheel house panel and lf tire and wheel. Place the front air cleaner intake duct into its opening then install the upper push in retainer before reattaching electrical connectors to the lh headlamp and finishing the headlamp assembly installation. The headlamp assembly needs retaining screws which require a torque specification of 7 n.m (61 lb in) before reattaching the air cleaner outlet splash shield.
