2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on standard on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Standard vehicles require a pressure relief of the fuel system before starting Fuel Rail assembly replacement. Start by removing the air cleaner outlet resonator and afterward removing the air cleaner resonator bracket. Begin by disconnecting the vacuum hose from the Fuel Pressure Regulator and proceeding to lift the Fuel Injector connector from its base with the lock release and depress the lock tab simultaneously. First disconnect the quick connect fittings of fuel feed pipe along with fuel return pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator. First remove the Fuel Rail attaching bolts which allows you to pull the Fuel Rail assembly from the cylinder head while discarding the injector lower o-ring seals. The new o-rings on the fuel injectors need cleaning engine oil lubrication before installing the Fuel Rail while following the service precautions for fastener operation. Locate and install the attaching Fuel Rail bolts while torquing them to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Run the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting as well as the fuel return pipe to the Fuel Pressure Regulator while tightening the return pipe fitting to 33 n.m (24 lb ft). Reconnect the injector connectors while pushing down the slide locks into their positions then install the vacuum hose to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Fit the air cleaner resonator bracket onto the vehicle while tightening the bracket nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in) followed by the second bracket nut to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) and the final bracket bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The technician must follow this step by connecting the negative Battery Cable and conducting a leak test by enabling the ignition for 2 seconds before turning it off for 10 seconds then re-enabling it to inspect for leaks.
