2001 Chevrolet Corvette Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the rear wheel bearing and hub on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start servicing the rear Wheel Bearing and hub by raising and mounting the vehicle before taking off its tire and wheel set. Unplug the Wheel Speed Sensor connection and rtd position sensor link when equipped. You should take out the brake piston and Wheel Hub before handling the shock absorber component fixed to the caliper. Unfasten the knuckle Tie Rod End from the suspension while removing the Spindle Nut retainer and washer with the Spindle Nut. Take these steps to disconnect the suspension knuckle from both the upper Control Arm and the lower Control Arm ball joint stud. Pull off the suspension knuckle to access the vehicle. If needed, unscrew the Wheel Hub bolts to free up the hub and bearing element. You need to select the matching Wheel Hub/wheel speed sensor part during installation because the front and rear versions cannot be swapped between vehicles. Insert the Wheel Hub parts into the suspension knuckle and fasten them with Wheel Hub bolts that need to be tightened to 130 nm (96 ft. Lbs.). Connect the suspension knuckle first to the upper Control Arm and next to the lower Control Arm ball stud. Fasten the suspension spindle parts including the washer and retainer before adding the outer Tie Rod End stud to the knuckle. Set the brake rotor and caliper in position then plug the speed sensor and shock solenoid electrical connections if installed. End by connecting the damping position sensor when it exists before reinstalling the tire set and lowering the car.
