2001 Chevrolet Malibu Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement of automatic transmission oil cooler pipes requires gm specification 123m equivalent double-wrapped and brazed steel pipe that also needs to be double-flared. Start the job with proper vehicle suspension then position a drain container under the vehicle. First detach the transaxle oil cooler hoses at their pipe locations before removing the pipe attachments from the radiator and pipe clip bolt to extract the transaxle oil cooler pipes. Install the pipes correctly so crossthreaded fittings do not cause leaks. Fix the transaxle oil cooler pipes while installing the clip bolt by tightening it to 4 nm (27 inch lbs.). Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe fittings to the radiator while using 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.) torque force and mount the transaxle oil cooler hoses onto their respective pipes. Adjust the fluid level while lowering the vehicle yet avoid overfilling because excessive fluid can lead to foaming and subsequent loss of fluid and shift complaints and damage to the transaxle. Check the completed repair work and verify that all fluids remain in their tanks.
