2001 Chevrolet Malibu Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The next step to replace lower Intake Manifold requires the removal of upper Intake Manifold and value Rocker Arm covers which start from the front and move towards the rear of the engine. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector before removing the fuel injector rail with lines. Set everything aside. Move the Power Steering Pump to the front engine cover before separating the heater inlet pipe with heater hose from the lower Intake Manifold. Disassemble the lower Intake Manifold by removing its bolts followed by the manifold itself before you can retrieve the rocker arms, push rods, lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals. The ect sensor and water outlet bolts with the water outlet require removal before cleaning all gasket and seal surfaces. The replacement of the lower Intake Manifold might also require removing the Thermostat component. The installer sequence starts with Thermostat installation followed by water outlet bolt on before torquing them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs). Reinstall the ect sensor after installation and secure it to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs) torque. Apply a bead of gm p/n 12345739 or equivalent rtv sealer to each contact ridge between the front and rear lower Intake Manifold edges and the engine block before installing the gaskets. Eventually, reinstall the lower Intake Manifold while the rocker arms and pushrods go in first. You must apply gm p/n 12345382 sealant to all lower Intake Manifold bolt threads. Thread the vertical bolts first and then the diagonal bolts to stop oil leakage. Start by tightening the vertical lower Intake Manifold bolts before moving to the diagonal bolts. Use new lower Intake Manifold bolts, tightening them according to a specific sequence starting at 7 nm (62 in. Lbs) then advancing to 13 nm (115 in. Lbs) on bolts (1,2,3,4) followed by 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs) for bolts (5,6,7,8). First connect heater inlet pipe to lower Intake Manifold with heater hose followed by Power Steering Pump installation before reinstalling fuel injector rail then ect sensor electrical connector and finish with upper Intake Manifold with valve rocker covers.
