2001 Chevrolet Metro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2001 Chevrolet Metro?
A: Service of the Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley requires starting with Battery Cable negation and proceeding with air cleaner assembly removal. First elevate the automobile and unscrew the six clips before taking off the right side splash shield. The service includes disconnecting tensioner pulleys and eliminating the air conditioner compressor Drive Belt from linking both the Crankshaft and compressor pulleys. First lower the vehicle before using a wrench to loosen the bolts on the generator mounting bracket at its upper and lower points. Then remove the coolant pump/generator Drive Belt. Raise the vehicle another time to remove the two bolts holding the flywheel inspection cover while you eventually take out the cover. Follow the procedures to lock the Crankshaft by using either the square hole on manual transmissions or flywheel locking on automatic models. The Crankshaft timing sprocket bolt must be removed first when the engine remains in the vehicle before moving on to remove the five Crankshaft timing pulley bolts and the Crankshaft timing pulley. Place the Crankshaft timing pulley onto the key of the Crankshaft timing sprocket before tightening its bolts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) for the timing pulley and 130 nm (94 ft. Lbs.) for the timing sprocket. Attache the Drive Belt connecting the Crankshaft to the coolant pump and generator pulleys before raising and using vehicle support systems. The Drive Belt for the air conditioner compressor requires users to free the tensioner pulley first and then position it between the Crankshaft and compressor pulleys. Secure the six splash shield clips onto the right side then use specifications to adjust the air conditioner compressor Drive Belt tension. Perform the generator and belt adjustment process before you tighten the upper bolt and lower mounting bolt to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). First install the air conditioner suction pipe bracket if it exists before reinstalling the air cleaner assembly while reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
