Chevrolet Metro Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) on Chevrolet Metro?
A: Starting the Harmonic Balancer (Crankshaft pulley) service process requires disconnecting the negative Battery Cable along with air cleaner assembly removal. The procedure starts with vehicle support followed by clip removal of the six items from the right splash shield during which time you also remove the generator cover plate's two retaining bolts. You should lower the vehicle and adjust the bolt on the upper generator bracket to disconnect both the coolant pump belt and the generator belt. Maintaining the proper torques is necessary when working with the Crankshaft timing gear bolt positioned at the middle of the Crankshaft Pulley. First remove five bolts used to secure the Crankshaft Pulley along with the pulley itself. The Crankshaft Pulley gets installed with its five bolts onto the dowel pin at the Crankshaft timing gear and requires torque of 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Fitter the accessory Drive Belt across the Crankshaft while connecting its ends to the coolant pump and generator. The installation process requires raising the vehicle again to fit the generator cover plate and screw two bolts to 5.5 nm (49 inch lbs.) specification so you can attach the right side splash shield by its six clips. Lower the vehicle while adjusting the accessory Drive Belt tension according to specifications before tightening the upper generator adjustment bolt to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect both the air cleaner assembly along with the negative Battery Cable in its proper place.
