2001 Chevrolet Prizm Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The vehicle's generator needs to be removed first before you can start repairing or servicing the Alternator. Mark points on both sides of the frontal and rear housings for correct reassembly. The procedure starts with removing the nut on the terminal insulator along with a bolt and three nuts alongside the plate terminal from the end cover. The process involves extracting the end cover first before removing the brush holder cover followed by the five screws while recording the brush holder orientation as it will help with reassembly. Remove first the brush holder followed by the Voltage Regulator and finally the seal. Start by disassembling the rectifier holder through four screws after you separate the four rubber insulators from the rectifier holder. To remove the pulley first loosen its nut using a 7/8 in box end wrench while accessing the rotor shaft with a 10 mm socket wrench. Then remove the pulley nut using the j 35452 or j 39194-b along with the 10 mm socket. To proceed, detach the rectifier end frame using j 28509-a by removing the four nuts and clip first. Afterward, remove the washer and rotor from the drive end frame. Inspect the front bearing before making any replacements. Replace it with a new one if any signs of damage are found. First use appropriate tools to remove the bearing retainer's four screws before pressing out the front bearing with an appropriate adaptor. Check and replace the rear bearing if you observe similar problems. Use the j 22888 tool to safely extract the rear bearing from the rotor after removing its outer cover without harming the rotor tan.
