Chevrolet Prizm Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Alternator on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The service and repair process of the Alternator starts with rear bearing inner cover installation followed by pressing the rotor shaft rear bearing into place using j 35419 tool along with a press. Begin installation by adding the rear bearing inner cover followed by installing the front bearing with compatible adapter and using a press and finally adding the bearing retainer. Place tour screws into position then use 3.0 n.m (27 lb in) torque when fastening each screw completely. The next step involves mounting the rotor to the drive end frame and afterward placing the washer on the rotor. A 29 mm socket (or equivalent tool) and press help with installing the rectifier end frame. The wire clip should then be mounted together with the 4 nuts. Tighten the clip nut to 5.5 n.m (48 lb in) and the 3 nuts to 4.5 n.m (40 lb in) torque levels. Use j 35452 or j 39194-b to install the pulley along with its nut before tightening the 7/8 in nut to 111 n.m (81 lb ft) when keeping the rotor shaft stationary with the 10 mm socket. The sequence requires installing 4 rubber insulators followed by the rectifier and 4 screws, which must be tightened to 3 n.m (26 lb in). Before adding the rectifier end frame's seal, fit in the Voltage Regulator while ensuring the brush holder faces the right direction. Secure the brush holder with 5 screws that should be tightened to 2.0 n.m (18 lb in). Secure the brush holder cover and end cover and plate terminal before fitting the 3 nuts and 1 bolt. Fasten the nuts to 4.5 n.m (39 lb in) and torque the bolt to 4 n.m (35 lb in). After installing both the terminal insulator and the nut, tighten the nut to 4 n.m (36 lb in) then make sure the rotor has smooth operation before mounting the generator to the vehicle.
