2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the surge tank outlet coolant pipe on 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L engines on 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A: Draining the cooling system remains the first step before replacing any outlet hoses on 4.8l, 5.3l, or 6.0l engines' surge tank. Detach the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at Throttle Body and maf/iat sensor positions before you remove both the outlet duct and radiator inlet hose clip and the air cleaner outlet duct. Vehicle owners without regular production option c36 (auxiliary heater) need to detach the surge tank/heater outlet hose from its mounting clip. Those with rpo c36 should proceed in the same manner. Vehicle maintenance requires removing the surge tank/heater outlet hose through the j 43181 tool no matter if your vehicle has rpo c36 installed. Use the heater line quick connect release tool (J 43181) to connect the surge tank outlet hose by putting it on the hose, closing it securely against the hose and pulling it into the quick connect outlet end of the hose. Through outlet hose manipulation one can separate it from heater and blower module without affecting rpo c36 status. Detach the surge tank outlet hose clamp from the surge tank afterward extract the surge tank outlet hose both from the surge tank and the Water Pump. Mount the fresh surge tank outlet hose by linking it to the Water Pump before placing the clamp in position. Connect the surge tank outlet hose with the surge tank while setting the clamp into position. When rpo c36 is installed you should push the surge tank outlet hose to the heater and blower module firmly until you hear a distinctive click noise. Install the surge tank/heater outlet hose through the mounting clip following rpo c36 status requirements. Align the Throttle Body end of the duct so the arrow points at the Throttle Body attaching stud before installing both the air cleaner outlet duct and the radiator inlet hose clip onto the outlet duct. Secure air cleaner outlet duct clamp screws to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) at the Throttle Body and maf/iat sensor and complete the process by filling the cooling system.
