2001 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: The torque angle meter (J36660-A) represents an essential tool when performing lower Intake Manifold replacement work. Start by taking out the upper Intake Manifold and then proceed with removing the engine left and right side valve rocker arm covers. Use masking tape to label each Fuel Injector wiring harness connector before disconnecting the wiring harness from the engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Start by removing the Fuel Injector while also removing the manifold air pressure (MAP) and ect wiring harness. Then disconnect the fuel feed and return pipe from the Fuel Injector rail before taking out the rail itself. Avoid disconnecting the power steering pipes or hoses from the Power Steering Pump; remove the Power Steering Pump by detaching it from its mounting on the front engine cover before placing it safely aside. Remove all connections between the heater inlet pipe and the lower Intake Manifold along with the inlet Radiator Hose and thermostat bypass hose. First remove each lower Intake Manifold bolt before taking out the lower Intake Manifold. Next loosen the valve rocker arms and then remove the push rods. You should remove both lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals then cleanse the gasket and seal surfaces of the cylinder heads and engine block. Check the lower Intake Manifold for damage and replace it if you plan to use new parts including ect sensor and thermostat. Direct the installation of rtv sealer gm p/n 12345739 or equivalent to each ridge where the front and rear of the lower Intake Manifold contacts the engine block using a 8 - 12mm (0.08 - 0.11 inch) bead measurement. Reinstall the push rods and tighten the valve rocker arms, using the torque angle meter (J36660-A) to tighten the valve rocker arm bolts to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.) plus 30 degrees. First tighten all vertical bolts before installation of the lower Intake Manifold and its bolts to minimize oil leakage. New lower Intake Manifold bolts require installation along with vertical bolt torques to 7 nm (62 lb in) followed by 13 nm (115 lb in) and diagonal bolts that need 7 nm (62 lb in) preliminary tightening before reaching 25 nm (18 lb ft). Reconnect the thermostat bypass hose with the inlet Radiator Hose and heater inlet pipe via hose to the lower Intake Manifold. Reposition the Power Steering Pump and Fuel Injector rail before installing the fuel feed and return pipes into the Fuel Injector rail. Exhaust emissions along with engine performance issues can occur when the Fuel Injector wiring harness connectors fail to attach to their designated fuel injectors. Finish the installation by wiring the Fuel Injector along with the map sensor and ect device harness before attaching the ect sensor harness and reinstalling the right and left engine valve rocker arm covers followed by the upper Intake Manifold.
