2001 Chevrolet Venture Steering Wheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering wheel on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: To service or repair the Steering Wheel, make sure that the ignition is off and that you have disabled the sir system. Take off the inflator module and if the Steering Wheel hub has no alignment marks, scribe one in accordance with the alignment mark on the shaft of the Steering Wheel. Relax the Steering Wheel nut and align it so that it is level with the ending of the steering column shaft. For Pontiac vehicles, use the J1859-A Steering Wheel puller (J1859-A) and J42578 Steering Wheel puller legs (J42578) to loosen the Steering Wheel. Within these vehicles, the J1859-A is not enough for Chevrolet and Oldsmobile vehicles. If equipped, disconnect the Steering Wheel controls electrical connector, as well as the horn switch from the steering hub. Take off the Steering Wheel nut and then driver's airbag. If you have Steering Wheel controls, remove them and the harness from the Steering Wheel. For installation, connect the Steering Wheel controls and harness to the Steering Wheel and steer the sir connector through the Steering Wheel, and align the marks to Steering Wheel, and Steering Shaft, before installing the Steering Wheel. Make sure the Steering Wheel nut is reusable only when it is free from rust and not dirty. When an accumulated 3 Nm (27 inch-pounds) of torque develops between the fastener and its counterpart before it goes any further, replace it. Tighten the Steering Wheel nut to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.), reconnect the horn switch lead and Steering Wheel controls electrical connector if equipped, reinstall the inflator module, enable the sir system, and confirm that the Steering Wheel control and horn are operating properly.
