2001 Chevrolet Venture Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rack and pinion boot using the J22610 Service Boot Clamp Installer on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: When replacing your vehicle's Rack and Pinion Boot use the j22610 service boot clamp installer. Start by removing both the outer tie rod followed by the hex jam nut attached to the inner tie rod assembly . The next step requires a service clamp remover to detach the tie rod end clamp which protects the Rack and Pinion Boot. After this removal use side cutters to detach the boot clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. First detach the Rack and Pinion Boot from the Rack And Pinion gear assembly until you can discard the boot clamp. Check the Rack and Pinion Boot for signs of damage as well as perform a leakage test. Drain all oil before cleaning the boot with solvent. Install a new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot while applying grease first to both the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly. Put the Rack and Pinion Boot into position on the inner tie rod assembly. Check that both ends of the Rack and Pinion Boot maintain a flat, smooth surface without any twist or puckers. As needed, hand mold the empty Rack and Pinion Boot into position before placing it within the gear assembly groove. Use the j22610 tool to crimp the boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot. To install the tie rod end clamp into the Rack and Pinion Boot use pliers until secure before adding the hex jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.
