  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Start your Rack and Pinion Boot replacement by removing the outer tie rod and hex jam nut from inside the inner tie rod using keystone clamp pliers (J 22610). First detach the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot before using side cutters to remove the boot clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. Discard the used boot clamp. The Rack and Pinion Boot should be removed from the gear assembly. When assembling the boot clamp should be installed onto the Rack and Pinion Boot and grease must be applied to both inner tie rod assembly and Rack And Pinion gear assembly before installing the new Rack and Pinion Boot onto the inner tie rod assembly. The Rack and Pinion Boot must be completely straight with no puckered spots and no twisting or out-of-shape deformations; manual readjustment is possible until it fits perfectly. Tests will show if manual adjustment of the Rack and Pinion Boot is needed before installing it into the gear assembly groove. The keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) should be used to place and crimp the boot clamp on the Rack and Pinion Boot . To install the tie rod end clamp you should pinch the pliers together while you secure the hex jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.
