2001 Chevrolet Venture Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2001 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Before beginning Timing Chain and sprocket replacement start by taking off the engine front cover. Position the crankshaft timing mark exactly at the timing mark found on the bottom of the Timing Chain dampener while placing the timing mark on the camshaft gear at the timing mark located on top of the Timing Chain dampener. You must remove the camshaft sprocket bolt before removing the camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain. The crankshaft sprocket puller (J5825-A) must first remove the crankshaft sprocket before you can proceed with Timing Chain dampener bolt removal and eventual Timing Chain dampener extraction. The crankshaft sprocket installer (J38612) should be used to install the crankshaft sprocket while applying prelube gm p/n 1052365 only or equivalent prelube material to the crankshaft sprocket thrust surface. Before tightening, install the Timing Chain dampener along with its bolts at a torque setting of 15 ft. Lbs (21 Nm). To begin installation place the crankshaft timing mark at the timing mark on the bottom of the Timing Chain dampener while holding the camshaft sprocket with the Timing Chain dangling beneath for Timing Chain setup on the crankshaft gear. Place the camshaft gear timing mark directly against the top timing mark on the Timing Chain dampener as you guide the camshaft dowel into its corresponding hole in the camshaft sprocket. Use a mounting bolt to draw the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft before applying engine oil to both sprockets and tightening the bolt to 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.). As the final step install the engine front cover.
