• Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?

  A: To replace the Timing Chain and sprockets, remove the engine front cover initially. Position the #1 Piston at top dead center (#4 firing position) and align the mark on the camshaft sprocket with the timing mark on the bottom of the Timing Chain dampener . It is advisable to remove the camshaft sprocket bolt and then the camshaft sprocket along with the Timing Chain and the Timing Chain dampener. If the sprocket does not come off easily, tap the sprocket with a lower edge of a plastic mallet to detach it. Using the crankshaft gear puller (J 5825-A), remove the crankshaft sprocket. For installation, install the crankshaft sprocket (J 38612) using the prelude gm p/n 1052365 or an alternate to the flank of crankshaft sprocket. Mount the time chain dampener and its bolts, and tighten them by 21 n.m (15 lb ft). Line the crankshaft timing mark with the timing mark at the bottom of the Timing Chain damper. Hold the camshaft sprocket along with the Timing Chain using the chain that also hangs down and fix the Timing Chain to the crankshaft gear. Set the line of the camshaft gear timingmarker straight with the timing marker on the top of the Timing Chain dampener and ensure that the dowel pin on the camshaft fits into the dowel pin on the camshaft sprocket. Mount draw the camshaft sprocket on the camshaft with the mounting bolt and coat crankshaft and the camshaft sprocket with engine oil then tighten camshaft sprocket bolt tighten 140n.m (103 lb ft). Finally, reinstall the engine front cover was done.
