    A: The first step is disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then removing the Fan Shroud assembly along with the Drive Belt. Use a temporary bolt that fits the crankshaft opening for protecting the engine while performing balancer tool operations. First remove the crankshaft balancer bolt together with its washer then proceed to take out the bolts and Crankshaft Pulley. You should use the balancer remover and installer (J 23523-F) to remove the crankshaft balancer by first applying j 23523-f plate and bolts which need to be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before rotating the forcing screw clockwise. Dip the crankshaft balancer in cleaning solvent while inspecting and drying it with compressed air for front groove pin position and any damage to the crankshaft front oil sealing surface as well as worn keyway and loose or damaged bolt hole threads and deterioration of the hub-to-outer ring rubber. When using the oil seal once again apply grease to its sealing surface followed by correct placement of the front groove pin. Install the balancer onto the crankshaft by applying adhesive gm p/n 12346141 or equivalent to the crankshaft balancer keyway which needs to be aligned with the crankshaft key. Follow these steps utilizing the balancer remover and installer (J 23523-F): apply the balancer to the crankshaft through pressing and torque bolt plate screws to 55 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and turn the nut clockwise for the balancer hub to touch the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring. The crankshaft pulleys require installation with their associated bolts at 58 nm (43 ft. Lbs.), positioning the crankshaft balancer washer crown toward the opposite direction from the engine. Complete the assembly by installing the crankshaft balancer washer along with its bolt and fasten the balancer bolt to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Drive Belt along with the Fan Shroud assembly and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
