How to properly dispose of a Shock Absorber on 2002 Buick Century?

Before disposal of a suspension strut make sure to protect your eyes using proper safety equipment since drilling will generate metal chips. Place the strut horizontally across a vise at full rod extension. Drill a hole at the end cap center with a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit. The drill will create gas or oil/gas vapor exhaust when drilling through the strut so use shop towels to absorb it. Before removing the strut from the vise position it vertically above a drain pan while having the drilled hole pointed downwards. Complete the drainage of oil from the strut by moving the rod in and out of the tube .
