2002 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2002 Buick LeSabre?
A: The servicing process of automatic transmission fluid and filter needs slide hammer (J6125-1B), axle boot remover (J23129), and transmission assembly lubricant (J36850) as required tools. Place a drain pan at the bottom of the transaxle Oil Pan while you raise and support the vehicle. Uncap the Oil Pan bolts starting from the front then the sides while leaving the rear bolts at four turns' rotation. To drain the fluid you should lightly hit the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet or apply a prying force while inspecting the fluid color. The next step includes removing the rest of the Oil Pan bolts before separating the Oil Pan and its gasket. A long screwdriver will pry the Oil Filter out and you should examine the Oil Filter seal for any damage. To eliminate a damaged seal use the slide hammer (J6125-1B) with axle boot remover (J23129). Place a new filter inside the case after coating both the seal and a small amount of transmission assembly lubricant (J36850) or petroleum jelly. The Oil Pan Gasket remains usable unless damage occurs to its sealing area. Install the Oil Pan together with the gasket before tightening the bolts to 14 nm (125 inch lbs.). Lower the vehicle before you fill the transaxle to the correct level while checking for any fluid leaks from both the transmission fluid and Oil Pan Gasket.
